My husband and I have had a contract with AT&T for a year now and we have never been offered a military discount. I would very surprised if they contact us. I will not renew another contract with them unless they can give us the 19% they advertise on the internet as well as through their company for the year we have had it. Thanks for nothing AT&T.

Good to know! I look forward to these…
And I just wanted to mention that you might want to change that picture. Driving with one cell phone has become frowned upon recently… I cringe to think of driving with two.

@ Patricia Vetre,
Dont fool yourself, none of them will ask you if you are in the military, you actually have to ask for this discount. As a pointer to you, no matter where you purchase services or merchandise, always ask if you qualify for military discount. Do not expect venders to ask you, you actually have to do some research here, but its not tough.

I for a fact know that I get a Discount with Tmobile. I was with them for 2 years before someone told me about it. You have to call in and ask them for the discount or you’ll never get it!

Are Military retirees eligible for a wireless discount??
July 6th, 2010 at 9:17 pm
AT&T did give us the discount as retirees. We had to provide the FAN number and sign up through the business site.

Just a heads-up…
My family plan with T-Mobile had expired, and after looking at all of the PUBLISHED (military discount) rates, we found that moving to AT&T would save us money.
THEN… it took 3 months for them to actually charge us the military discounted rate that we signed for on the original contract.
After calling – every month – to find out where the disconnect was, they have finally (maybe?) implemented our military discount.
BUT… they do not apply the discount to various services on the wireless phone.
BOTTOM LINE – comparing T-Mobile’s rates to AT&T? T-Mobile appears to have a military rate for their wireless service. AT&T has a military rate for the ability to say you have AT&T. Once you actually pay for the wireless SERVICE, though, it costs more.
Wish we had been told that what they SAY they charge when you sign up is not what they actually charge.

Where do I find the current FAN ## for the military discount? I’m USN Retired.
September 7th, 2010 at 11:50 am
Just talked to ATT and they said discount is only 15%….no upgrade fee waived either!!
September 13th, 2010 at 1:09 pm
AT&T is 15%. They said it would take 1-2 months to take effect, which is bogus. They can make the change immediately but choose not to.
September 19th, 2010 at 11:31 pm
Please! I have been trying to get our military discount with Verizon for two years now! There is always some excuse that it has not been implemented. “thanks for your service, but we are going to keep overcharging you anyway”
November 26th, 2010 at 6:32 pm
I have a .mil address, but it is my husband that is active duty military…am I still eligible for the ATT discount if the service is in my name!!
January 17th, 2011 at 4:01 pm
@ Laura… We had the same issue and I learned to stop dealing with the toll free customer service. I went to the AT&T store, filled out the paperwork and the nice gentleman there submitted MY id card. After 4 years, what do you know? The discount showed up on my account the next day! That was 8 months ago so I hope they fixed that stupid rule. Good luck!

I have gone to AT& T official office and representative office and I still am not able to get the FAN #. AT & T said we have to get it from the Disabled Veterans or the Dept of Veterans Affairs. I have not had any luck getting this FAN # from anyone. Can anybody help me? I am a disabled vet and fill like I’m getting quite the runaround. Thanks for the help anyone.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me which provider has the best service overseas?
Thank you.

Based on current at&t services I would never give them future business on any kind!

Verizon’s government contract terminated in October 2010. I found out last night when I got my bill and it was $30 higher for no apparent reason. When I called, I found out that they no longer offer a military discount.
June 13th, 2011 at 12:08 pm
That doesn’t make any sense. The government contract should not affect a military discount. Companies offer a military discount as an appreciation for your service. Military discounts are not tied to some government contracts, however sometimes the government will have a corporate account with companies in which they negotiate special rates in exchange for the high volume of business. Since the government isn’t paying your cellphone bill, they don’t negotiate special rates with your personal phone service.

I don’t know why you no longer receive 15% military discount through Verizon but we’ve had them for over 2 years and have always received it and still receive it to this day & its August 2011

Hey!!
I was looking around your shop and I’m really impressed with the set up! You seem like you have a great business running! I noticed you were using an email auto-responder to build a list and market to your customers? That has been a great way to increase sales for a long time, but haven’t you heard of SMS marketing?
Imagine this, you display a VIP SMS CLUB on your website for your future customers and send out an email to your current customers about your NEW VIP CLUB. They text a code such as ‘vipentry’ to a shortcode such as ’54545′ and are automatically subscribed to your SMS list.
Now say you send out a text message to your list with a 5% off your next order special offer. Your customers will receive this message INSTANTLY to their cell phones! You can even put a 48 hour limit on the deal so you get lots of quick sales!
My name is Jennifer btw, I do some marketing stuff and I just saw something that could really help you out so I decided to tell you about it, I’m not trying to sell you on a service or anything like that! I don’t want to talk your head off so if SMS marketing sounds cool to you, you can get more info at “http://www.smsmarketinghut.com/”
If you want to ask me anything I will be happy to help you out!
Jennifer

Reconnect with old buddies and family through AT&T.
You’ve made sacrifices. It’s our turn to give back. Now honorably discharged veterans, along with retired and active duty service men and women, can stay connected to loved ones at home and abroad, while enjoying a 15% discount on qualified monthly wireless plans.
How do you qualify?
It’s simple. Just visit a local store and bring your DD form 214 or Veteran’s ID card for an AT&T associate to validate in our system. Please mention FAN code 4085530.

Ernest,
Do you work for AT&T? I have been fighting with them since Nov 2010 for the USN Retired 15% discount, and have
have no success to date. I have sent the required info myself twice, went into an anuthorized vendor four times and had them fax the form, copy of my retired ID card, and FAN Code and to date nary a discount has shown up on
my statement.

I just talked to Verizon and they don’t give military discount on their unlimited family plan….so we have to pay for two individual plans or take one of the minutes plan with the possibility of going over?? Seriously how is that a discount?? Why is it everyone else gives us straight discounts but to get something from a cell phone company is worse than going to a dentist?
