I also took the Oath of Enlistment in 1957 then the Oath of Office 11 years 11 months and 11 days later..I retired in 1983 with a Master's Degree and access to a great job. I owe the US Air Force for allowing me to Pursue Happiness..and serving my country! I'm now working with homeless veterans helping them get the benefits they have earned..PTL

I took the Oath of Enlistment in 1952 and the Oath of Office 9 years 11 months 2 weeks and 2 days later. Having served as Enlisted and Commissioned Officer gives one a very broad understanding of the import of every word in those Oaths. I served America to the absolute best of my honor and ability. GOD BLESS AMERICA, despite the gnashing of liberals' teeth.

I served in Vietnam in 1968-69 as a helicopter pilot. I took the oath in 1967 and still follow that oath today. the key word in that oath is defend against ALL enemies. ALL, not some or those in high offices but ALL. God bless America. Do not allow anyone to take your Bill of Rights away. Vote those liberals out and defend the Constitution of these United States.

As a mustand and currently active duty member, this is the oath and it is to the constitution, not the president. that same constitution does make the president our Commander in Chief and assures that we endorse no particular religeon. I have served for many presidents in the psat 35 years from both parties - all lawfully elected. An by the way - most of our founders were humanists. Read Thomas Paine's Common Sense or have a look at jeffersons version of the bible where he espouses Deism". Not really what most Americans today are led to believe.

By the by, there is nowhere in that oath dealing with allegience (sp) to a person--it is to an idea.

I'm not sure, but this may be the only oath given to protect an idea. That idea is codified in the Constitution.
